5 Ways to Be a Little More Eco-Friendly in Your Condo

Talk of Earth Day celebrations can feel pretty isolating when you live in a space without a yard or green space to call your own. Here’s how you can celebrate Mother Nature when you live in a concrete jungle.

1. Start a balcony garden

There are so many stylish and self-watering planters out there today, it’s never been easier to keep a thriving planter garden on your balcony. Just make sure any drainage holes have dishes under them to catch water – your downstairs neighbour can thank me later.

2. Go veg for the day

Not only will the animals thank you, but our earth will too!

If you’re a carnivore, go vegetarian for the day. If you’re vegetarian, have a vegan day.

Already vegan? Cook a vegan meal for a non-vegan friend or family member today, or share one of your favourite recipes with them.

3. Email your property manager

Ask them to set up green bin, e-waste, and/or clothing donation stations if your building doesn’t already have them.

Ask them how else they might be able to make the building more environmentally friendly. Your property manager likely has experience managing several buildings, and has seen a lot of environmentally conscious initiatives before. Let them know that those initiatives are desired by the residents of your building too.

4. Start using reusable mugs, bottles, and bags

You have them. Dust them off, bring them out, and use them all day to have a no-waste day!

5. Take the stairs instead of the elevator

Seem like a tall order? If you live on a high floor, take the stairs when you need to go down, and the elevator only on your way up.

Of course, always be safe around stairs and only do what’s within your personal ability.
